Trade food for library fines in November
AURORA — The Aurora Public Library will conduct a “Food for Fines” drive Nov. 1 through 30.
All library locations will accept one item of non-perishable food in payment for every $1 or increment of $1, up to $10in fines per person. Only nonperishable items with containers that are not damaged, expired or rusty will be accepted.
The drive is conducted at all locations: Main, 1 E. Benton St.; Eola Road Branch, 555 S. Eola Road; West Branch, 233 S. Constitution Drive; and at all Bookmobile stops.
Last November, library patrons donated 9,790 items, and the amount of fines waived was $8,805.43.
All food collected will be donated to the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry.
The food pantry lists the following items as “critical needs” this year:
-Hot or cold breakfast cereal
- Baby formula (Similac or Enfamil or their generic counterparts)
- Diapers (size 4)
-Spaghetti sauce and pasta
Items on the “regularly needed” list are:
-Canned fruits and vegetables
-Soup-canned or mixes
-Pancake mix
-Baking mix
-Canned tuna or chicken
-Macaroni and cheese
-Peanut butter and jelly
-Rice
-Beans
-Diapers (sizes 5 and 6)
