Civil War Spies for Kids
Saturday, Oct. 1, 10:30 a.m.
MAIN LIBRARY, 1 E. Benton St., Aurora
Children ages 7 to 12 can find out who was doing the spying during the Civil War by participating in a spy activity. This program will be repeated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the West Branch, 233 S. Constitution Drive. An Afternoon with Dara Horn

Author Dara Horn will discuss her research into the Civil War and how she used it to write “All Other Nights.” A book signing will follow the presentation. “All Other Nights” is the 2011 Fox Valley Reads title.

Illinois in the Civil War

Although no major battles of the Civil War took place in Illinois, the state played a significant role in the war and felt its effects. This slide lecture will discuss Lincoln, Grant and other heroes who led the country through the war, and also the role of Illinois regiments active in the Western theater.
