New fee is $160 per family
Nonresidents who pay a fee for their Aurora Public Library cards will pay less this year than in either of the past two years.
The Aurora Public Library Board voted in June to continue to participate in the nonresident services program and reduce the fee to $160 per year per family. Last year, the fee was $165, and the year before, $190. The fee is based on taxes paid by residents. The new fee took effect July 1 and is good through June 30, 2013.
According to Illinois statutes, “an individual living outside of a public library’s service area may purchase a library’s patron/borrower card, providing the nonresident with library service. The law governs where the card is purchased and expands the borrowing privileges to include reciprocal borrowing for nonresidents and nonresident property owners.”
Persons who have library cards that are valid in other cities are welcome to register their cards with the Aurora Public Library and check out materials through reciprocal borrowing.
