Teacher loans on a school library card are available through the Young People’s Department of the Main Library. Up to 50 items may be checked out for an eight-week loan period. No fines are charged for overdue items with the exception of videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs. Teachers may choose their own materials or have YPD staff choose materials for them.
Tours of the library and classroom visits also are available. Library staff can conduct a storytime, booktalks or an introduction to library services or library skills, such as using the online catalogue, the Dewey Decimal System, research or other activities tailored to the group.
For details on these services, please call one of the library locations: Main Library – 630-264-4100; West Branch – 630-264-3600; Eola Road Branch – 630-264-3400.
Library staff would like to help students with special school assignments. Since most books check out for four weeks and other schools may have similar assignments, material may not be available unless prior notice of assignments is given. With two weeks advance notice, materials can be set aside for student use in the library or for short-term checkout. By designating materials as “in-library use,” all students will have access to the Assignment Alert materials.
The Assignment Alert form gives advance notice to library staff about upcoming assignments for students. The Assignment Alert form, available at the library or online, asks for subject, grade, number of students, date the project is assigned and information needed for the assignment.
