II. How Can the Library Help Me Here?

 

Census Records:

 

Once again, these are located on the top floor of the Aurora Public Library Main facility in the Genealogy/Local History collection. We have Kane county census records for 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910. The 1840-1860 censuses are indexed by name.

Be Advised:

Census records can be difficult to use. Handwriting styles have changed through the years, and the entries can be hard to read. Accuracy is not always 100% since this information was often given verbally to a recorder who wrote what he heard, and were written however he thought names, places, etc. were spelled. Needless to say, these factors increase the chances for factual errors.
