Victor Salvo is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the award-winning Legacy Project – a Chicago-based non-profit cultural/education charity focused on highlighting and promoting LGBTQ contributions to world history and culture as a way to combat the loss of self-esteem experienced by bullied LGBTQ+ youth. Legacy manages the digitally interactive “Legacy Wall” traveling exhibit, as well as “The Legacy Walk” outdoor LGBTQ history museum walk in Chicago. The Legacy Wall – which has 125 inspiring stories – has been seen by over 400,000 people since launching a national tour since 2017. The Legacy Walk features forty (40) bronze biographical memorial markers, which offer a detailed glimpse into the lives of LGBTQ historical figures, their achievements, the challenges they faced, and how their contributions shaped humanity’s story. Recently declared a Historic Landmark, the Legacy Walk spans a mile on Chicago’s northside and is visited by 1.5 million people annually. Both the Legacy Walk and the Legacy Wall feature individuals from internationally, multiculturally, and sexually diverse backgrounds. These world-class installations are digitally linked to an online education portal with proprietary lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia that are the foundation of Illinois’s new LGBTQ-inclusive general education mandate.
