House Histories

III. How Can the Library Help Me Here?

The Main Library’s Genealogy/Local History Department has microfilm for the Aurora Beacon News starting in 1848. as well as scattered runs of other Aurora newspapers through the years. Contained therein are obituaries which are brief articles about local deaths. These articles can provide information about the people who have lived in your home in the past, or give an indication of some of the events that may have taken place there.

Be Advised:

So far, most of the obituaries contained in the Beacon News are not indexed. While there are ways to uncover death dates, sometimes it can be a bit of a chore, and it was not always guaranteed that a death would be written up in the newspaper.
